Sigmund holds an MSc in Petroleum Geosciences from The Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH). He has 39 years experience within the Norwegian and international oil industry. He spent 16 years with Exxon during which time he held several technical and managerial positions in Norway, in USA and in the UK . His responsibilities included exploration and production geology, license applications and license administration. His final assignment with Exxon was as Geological Manager in the Stavanger office. Subsequently he joined Statoil where he held positions as Exploration Manager for Africa and Americas, Manager of the Exploration Technology Division and Chief Geologist. He was heavily involved in establishing Statoil positions in West Africa, in Venezuela and in GOM. From 2003 to 2005 he worked with Aker Geo as a consultant, during which time he had key roles in two major projects; equity redetermination of the Ormen Lange Field (Petoro) and appraisal /development planning for the Gudrun Field (Statoil). He joined Pertra, later to become Det norske oljeselskap, shortly after the company was established in 2005. During the 6 years with Det norske he was involved in a broad range of projects including prospect generation, license applications, drilling operations, farm-ins, and responsible for portfolio management and quality assurance.
